4 Habits and Tricks to Help You Lose Weight at the Restaurants

Over-eating is easy at restaurants. You order your dishes, they put it in front of you, and you clean your plate. We all want our money's worth when we go out to eat, since we are paying for our food and service. However, this can be detrimental to your efforts to losing weight on several levels. Don't worry though, there is a way to eat out at restaurants and still lose weight. Just follow these simple habits and tricks and you will be able to enjoy your meals and know you are still moving in the right direction.

1. Hit the Mains (right off the bat) - Jump over the starters and you will be avoiding (in most cases) a high calorie punch to the gut. Most of these appetizers are loaded with empty calories (especially the fried ones), so by avoiding them you will be cutting hundreds of calories out of the meal.

2. Always Order a Salad - Load your meal up with nutritious veggies to offset your appetite. Get your salad dressing on the side, and if you are keener, choose a vinaigrette (it has good fats and is lower on the calories). Bonus trick if you choose to accept it... eat the salad first to fill up a little before jumping to the main dish.

3. Divide and Conquer - Split your main dish up into two (just ask your server to do this for you), so you will have one for your meal at hand, and the other to go. Serving sizes these days are bigger than ever, so dividing them will give you a more appropriate serving size.

4. Slow Down - The stomach actually takes a bit of time to initiate a response indicating you are full. However, there is a lag in this response. By speed eating, the signal from your stomach to your brain will be too late and you will actually be too full. Slow down, chew more, chat more and you will find yourself full faster than you usually are.

There you have it, some simple habits and tricks to help you lose weight and move you closer to burning that fat, even when you go out to eat at the restaurants. Apply these on your next restaurant meals and see how eating out at a restaurant doesn't have to hinder your efforts to losing that weight. Enjoy those restaurant meals because you deserve it, but do it in a way that allows you to keep an eye on your goal (and waistline).
