We have all been there - trying to lose that annoying five pounds that has been plaguing you for months, and now you have a reunion to attend and you need to know how to lose weight fast. You need not worry, there are ways to lose the weight safely and effectively and still look fabulous in time for the reunion.

The key to losing weight is to burn more calories than you take in, or eat less and exercise more. This does not mean you need to starve yourself and spend countless hours at the gym. Eat smart and try walking just thirty minutes a day to help achieve the results you want. You may think you have no time to exercise but most of us can find thirty minutes somewhere in our day to go for a walk. It is also important to drink plenty of water; at least eight glasses a day, and start your day with a glass of water too. Water is not only good for you and helps to flush out the toxins in your body, but it makes you feel fuller so you will eat less. Omit beverages such as carbonated drinks and sweetened fruit juices from your diet and just stick to water. In order for the increased water intake to be effective, you should also reduce your salt consumption to avoid water retention. Just by cutting down on salty foods, you may initially lose a few pounds just from decreased fluid retention.

A slow metabolism is one of the reasons people have difficulty losing weight, so be sure to eat breakfast to get your metabolism going early in the day. Choose foods low in fat and try to include something from all four-food groups in your meals. Stay away from processed foods and include more fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. It is not necessary to eliminate meat entirely from your diet if you choose not to, but white meat such as chicken or fish is recommended over red meats.

Snacking is another problem for many people and another reason why it may be difficult to lose weight. Junk food is very tempting but if you want to lose weight fast, you need to avoid the sweets and fried foods and if you must snack, choose something healthy. In fact, instead of eating three meals a day and snacking between meals, try eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. Try not to skip a meal as it will likely result in overeating at the next meal. And don't eat just because the food is there, eat only when you are hungry to also avoid overeating and gaining that extra unwanted weight.
