Studies show that skipping breakfast can lead to a slower metabolism which leads to weight gain.
Start your day with a healthy breakfast. This will set up your metabolism and blood sugar levels for the day.
What do you have lined up for your morning meal?
I remember looking down at my breakfast meal. It was a bowl filled with colored floating marshmallows over whole milk.
It was only then that I turned the cereal box and milk box to read the label... and said "WOW!"
Okay, on the nutrition side, there are some vitamins in the milk and cereal such as protein and few vitamins however, everything else - it was mainly refined carbs and sugars.

I still eat cereal. I love it because only take a few minutes to eat - three minutes maximum on average for me. So I can head out and start my day. I usually don't have time for a 3 course breakfast meal. I've changed my cereal brands now that have less sugars and more fiber. It's helped my waist line tremendously.
If you do get cereal, don't get cereal with added sugars. Look for higher fiber and protein content.
I use to drink sweet tea, orange or various fruit juices for breakfast. Now, I dilute my fruit juice with half water and half beverage of choice to avoid excess sugar and still get satisfied with the taste. Have some carbs and protein in your first meal.
Here are few other to avoid as possible for breakfast:

• Pastries - donuts, muffins, croissants, bear claws - usually packed with tons of refined carbs and sugars.

• High sugar cereals: read the labels first. Only eat cereal that has no added sugar and that contains some protein and healthy fat. Get a brand that is well balanced with vitamins and nutrients. Yogurt with some high fiber fruit is also quick to prepare I try to also fit steel cut oatmeal as a cereal alternative. I'll add berries and other fruits.

• Drive through breakfast sandwiches or burritos: at fast food joints.

• Granola bars: most aren't pack with much vitamins have little fiber, vitamins and minerals. Check the label especially for number of carbs and sugars.

Make sure you have enough protein in meal when eating with carbs. This helps level off the sugars in the carb.

Keep a water bottle with you and drink from it all day. Get enough sleep each night. Because tiredness can be mistaken for hunger and you might over eat the following morning.

Setting goals is absolutely essential. When you have a clear cut idea of what you want to achieve you are 100 times more likely to succeed. It is important to set realistic and attainable goals. That is where our mnemonic comes into play.

Be specific with what you want to achieve. Ask yourself the following:

What do I want to accomplish? Why do I want to accomplish this goal? What are the benefits? The purpose?
If a goal is not measurable, it is not possible. Ask yourself:

How much?
How will I know when I have accomplished my goal?
A goal needs to be attainable. If your goal is unrealistic and cannot be attained, you'll lose motivation. Ask yourself:

How can my goal be accomplished?
Make your goal relevant. You must be willing to work towards accomplishing your goal. If you have read this far, then I know you have the willpower to follow through!

Structure your goals in a specific time frame. Since you are reading this, I can safely assume your time frame is 2 weeks. If you fail to accomplish your goal in that time don't be disheartened. You will make tremendous progress on your journey towards your ultimate goal.

Track Your Progress

Keeping a weight loss journal is highly underrated. I cannot emphasize enough how important this is. Don't worry about being extremely meticulous and recording every calorie you eat. That isn't important. Rather, document what you eat and when. This strategy also holds you accountable and will alleviate the temptation to cheat (who wants to write down they ate a bunch of cookies?!).

Take front, side, and back photos of yourself before you start your weight loss journey. Record your starting body fat and take a waist measurement as well. Don't worry about your scale weight. In fact, I encourage you to throw out your scale! So many people rely on their scale weight to track their fitness progress, but this is a deceiving method.

Take Care of the "Little Things"

There are a few simple lifestyle changes you can make that will massively increase how easily you lose weight.

Drink A LOT of Water

Proper hydration is often overlooked. When you are hydrated your body functions at its highest capacity. Up to 60% of the human body is composed of water! Keeping your body adequately hydrated is extremely important for your overall health and your fat burning goals.

Get Adequate Rest

I love sleep! Everyone should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night. 8 hours!? I know, it sounds like a lot -- especially to those of you averaging half of that. Getting proper sleep is crucial for weight loss.

Minimize Stress In Your Life

Throughout our day we have low and high levels of cortisol (a hormone that normalizes blood glucose levels). We start seeing problems when cortisol is too high too often.

Cortisol is released when our body is under stress. We all experience stress to some degree in our day to day lives. In order to maximize fat loss you need to make a conscious effort of reducing the stress you place on your body. One of the best strategies to eliminate stress is by getting adequate sleep! I already touched on that above, but I should also add that sleeping in a pitch black room dramatically improves your sleep. It isn't always practical to black out your room, but you can find nice looking black out curtains that will do the trick.

I believe that managing stress and improving the quality of your sleep are two of the most important components to fast weight loss. I will cover these topics in greater depth in future posts as well.

Drinking four to eight cups of tea a day can actually help you lose weight. It's a round-a-bout way, to be sure, but a fact, none the less.

Here's the way it works. There are two hormones that effect our weight. They are Leptin and gherlin. Leptin is what gives you a feeling of satisfaction after eating. When you suffer from sleep deprivation, Leptin levels go down. You don't get that satisfied feeling after eating, you're still hungry, so you eat more.

To make matters worse, your gherlin levels rise if you don't get enough sleep, and gherlin effects your appetite. The higher the gherlin level, the hungrier you become. It's a vicious circle, with the end result being weight gain. Drinks high in caffeine can cause sleeplessness and contribute to added pounds on our bodies.

Drinking tea instead of coffee is the answer to avoiding weight gain caused by caffeine. Tea has much less caffeine than coffee. The following chart shows the comparison:

To gain the most benefits from tea drinking, enjoy tea throughout the day. Drink at least four to eight cups of tea a day, switching to caffeine free tea in the evening.

It's easy to make your own decaffeinated tea from regular tea. Place a teabag in your cup add hot water and allow to steep for approximately three minutes. Discard that cup of tea, and make another cup of tea using the same teabag. The caffeine has been removed and discarded in that first steeping. The second steeping results in a caffeine free cup of tea.
