Losing weight super fast may actually be good for you - there are times when losing weight really fast is very necessary. How can it be done in a natural and healthy way? The answer is to fast for a period of time. Let's take a look at why and how:
Fasting - and not only necessarily the type where you consume nothing - is the quickest way to provide healing for your body, and at the same time, to lose weight while you're at it.
Over time, toxins from the processed and refined food we eat, as well as pollutants in the air we breathe, the chemicals in the food and water we consume, build up. There have been cases where food has built up in an individual's colon from 20 years back! This causes complications, illness and disease, so it figures that the faster the system can send all the nutrients to the body parts that need it, and eliminate the waste, the better it is for the body.
The toxins that build up over time enter the bloodstream, causing the body to experience a "down" cycle - this results in the individual feeling depressed, or suffer from headaches or diarrhea. Fasting is the fastest (pun intended) way to help the body rid itself of this toxic buildup. I would recommend fasting for all ailments - it speeds up the recovery process. Often, the body is just begging for a fast! Think of it as a machine - machines need to be put off sometimes. If they are kept running without stopping for long periods of time, they will break. We give our bodies a rest when we sleep, but during that time, it is still working to digest supper. So it doesn't really get a rest, unless we abstain from feeding it more toxins by fasting or having a detox.
Acute illnesses, colon disorders, allergies and respiratory diseases are most responsive to fasting, while chronic degenerative diseases are the least responsive.
When you fast, the energy usually used for digestion is redirected to the immune function, cell growth, as well eliminatory processes. Fat-stored chemicals, such as pesticides and medication, are released.
The benefits of fasting include healing with greater speed, cleansing the liver, kidneys and colon, purifying the blood, helps you lose excess weight and water, flushes out toxins, clears the eyes and tongue, and cleanses the breath.
Actually, it is recommended you fast 3 days a month! Yes, I know many so-called "experts" out there advise strongly against fasting, but take a look at biblical times and how often they fasted - and there was no cancer or weight issues in those times! Shouldn't that tell us something?
The length of the fast accomplishes different things. A 3 day fast helps the body rid itself of toxins and cleanses the blood. A 5 day fast begins the process of healing and rebuilding the immune system. A 10 day fast takes care of many problems before they even arise, and will help to fight off illness and disease.
Precautions when fasting:
Unless you are relatively healthy, it is best not to fast on water alone, as this releases toxins too fast, causing headaches amongst other symptoms. It is best - especially if this is the first time you are fasting, to do a live-juice fast - this removes toxins but supplies the body with vitamins, minerals and enzymes which promote healing.
If you choose to fast longer than 3 days, it is advisable to do so only under the supervision of a medical practitioner. If you have diabetes, hypoglycaemia or another chronic health problem, even short fasts should be supervised by a doctor. Do not fast if you are pregnant.
Preparing for a fast:
Eat only raw fruit and veggies for two days prior to the fast. This gives less of a shock to the system. Drink lots of fresh, clean, purified water. Drink pure fruit and/or veggie juices freshly juiced. Avoid store-bought juices.
Juices for fasting:
The best juice to use is lemon juice made by adding the juice of one lemon to a cup of warm water, or using it with veg or fruit that you will juice. Fresh apple, beet, cabbage, carrot, celery, grape, cucumber are great, together with any other green, leafy veggies.
When you have finished your fast, do not go straight back onto cooked and processed foods, but rather ease back slowly by eating raw fruit, veggies, seeds and nuts.
